Celebrating Baby Girls

On Saturday, Waverly and I went with Nana Pam to our friend Emily's baby shower!.

Our friends Emily and Aric are expecting a baby girl soon.
This was a big baby shower, since its Emily's first baby girl!
Mommy and Nana came prepared, with snacks and activities for Waverly.
Waverly loved having sticker time with Nana!

After food and games, we watched Emily open her gifts and kept an eye on the many children running around.  Waverly was particularly taken with Isabella, this little girl who played with her.  They were so sweet playing together!
It was a fun party!
We hope Emily enjoyed it, too, and good luck with Baby Addisyn.

Daddy's Surgery

Friday, Daddy and Mommy went to Louisville for Daddy's hand surgery.
Poor Daddy has had carpal tunnel and it has been very painful.  Both arms and hands have been numb and it has gotten to the point where surgery is the best option.

It was early morning when we arrived at Norton's hospital.  We checked in at registration and Dean was admitted and then we were taken to the surgery floor.  The nurses and aides were very nice!  Dean immediately requested that I have a more comfortable chair than those provided in his room, and they accomodated with a nice recliner.  Then the real work started and it was time to get Dean all ready...

Does he look like he needs a hug yet?

The nurses did an IV and put an oxygen monitor on his right hand.  Since his blood pressure was a little high, most likely due to the stress of the upcoming surgery, Dean received a nice cocktail of meds.  He was a little loopy for a bit, but otherwise seemed his normal self.  During our wait, Dean did try to mess with his monitors, though.  He would hold his breath or tap his "ET" finger to change the numbers.  Silly Daddy...

On his right hand, the nurse put in a catheder.  She started by giving his hand a little dose of lidocane.  I was leaning over to watch and the "pop" surprsied me!  But the cathedar was painless to install after that!

We expected that Dean would be taken back for surgery around 11:00, but due to complications with the previous patient, we had a much longer wait.  Dean was very hungry, but he was in good spirits as we twirled our thumbs patiently.  We even took little naps!
The doctor stopped by to speak with us and to mark Dean's hand for the surgery.

The doctor told us all about the procedure and what recovery would be like.  He also gave Dean instructions on what exercises to do for his hand over the next couple of weeks.

The anesthiologist returned and Dean had another round of cocktails since time was drawing near.  This time, the medications affected him much faster and much stronger.  He was more relaxed and the lack of food surely contributed.  He passed right out, causing me a touch of panic, but then he began snoring loudly so I knew he was ok.  That was my scary moment of the day!

At 1:20, the doctors and nurses came and took Dean back to the operating room.  He later told me about how they wrapped his arm tightly with a thick rubberband, like those exercise bands.  He remembers when they gave him the medication and off to dream land he went...

They nurses did a great job of keeping me well-informed.  The doctor's began working on him at 1:51 and by 2:25 they were closing up.  Dean was returned to me by 2:30.  He was alert, though he didn't know that I knew that and he tried to trick me again with a funny face.  He quickly recovered from the anesthetisia and was up walking and everything within minutes.  After some paperwork and normal discharge information, we were out the door and on our way to fill prescriptions and eat some food!  The surgery went well and so far, recovery has been better than I expected.  Daddy is doing well!

When we got home that night, we found Daddy's message he had left for us...

Since he was so nice, Mommy and Waverly had to take good care of him.  He is already doing so well!  In a few weeks, we'll go back for surgery on his right hand.  Thanks to everyone for thinking of us over these last few days!

Cuter than a Cupcake

Waverly impresses me everyday.
On Tuesday night, I made a cake and a few cupcakes for Mamaw Jean.
Waverly saw that I was taking them out of the oven, grabbed an oven mitt for herself, and ran to her kitchen to take out her baked goodies too!

She promptly told me that the oven was "hot" and put her hand out for me to stand back...
I just adore her every move!  She is becoming so creative and using her imagination.  And, if I do say so myself, she is just too smart!  She had to find her toy cupcakes and put them in and out of her own oven, just like Mommy was doing!
And then she wanted us to "see" what she was doing...

And a taste check was in order when her cupcakes were all done!

*Note: the plastic ones weren't as tasty, so Waverly got to choose one of the real ones for her dessert!

Baby Bean

Today was a big day for our little family.
Mommy went to the doctor's office for the 28 week check-up.  This time, Mommy saw Dr. Looff.  We were happy to hear that everything is going well with Baby Bean!

After meeting the doctor, Mommy listened to Baby Bean's heartbeat through the stethoscope.  His little whoosh-whoosh noises get stronger each visit!  We are now to the point where doctor's visits will be scheduled for every two weeks instead of once a month.  Moving right along!

After the doctor's appointment, Daddy met Mommy and we went to have a 3D ultrasound.  Baby Bean wasn't at all interested, though!  He was busy napping, and laying face down to do so!

We didn't get to see a picture of Baby Bean's face, but we did get to see the top of his head!
The ultrasound technician took measurements so we could know how big baby is right now...

Top of Baby's Head

Baby's femur (thigh bone)
Baby Bean weighs in about 3 lbs. 7 ounces!!!  Based on his measurements, that places us at 30 weeks and 4 days along, with a due date of December 9th.  This was the first due date we were given, based on monthly math, but the date was later changed to December 26th based on baby's first ultrasound.  We will be sure to let Dr. Looff know the size of our Baby Bean and then see what we can do about deciding on a due date!

Daddy was able to hear Baby Bean's heart beat today, too!  Baby's heart rate was 136 beats per minute.

Since Baby Bean was in the mood for hide and seek today, we get to return in two weeks for another chance at the ultrasound.  Even though we wanted to see our little man's face today, its  a good thing that we were able to hear his heart beat and find reassurance that he is doing well.  Plus, we get to take another peek in just two weeks!  How exciting!

Wonderful Weekend

It was a lazy weekend at the Lickliter's home!
Mommy and Waverly stayed home all weekend long.  We found plenty to keep us busy though!

Waverly loves her new drawing boards.  She is all about drawing things and becoming quite the artist.  What really impresses her is when you draw something she can recognize, a cat or a balloon, or the Blue's Clues logo.

She's always happy to show you what she has drawn too!
Since it was chilly outside, we only played on the deck a little bit over the weekend.  Waverly loved to sit and draw wherever she was!

Sunday night, we all went to Mamaw and Papaw's for dinner.  Waverly had a blast riding the 4-wheeler with Papaw to look for her cows.  She moo's at them and everything!  Then she had us all cracking up while she enjoyed a few bite bites leftover from her dinner...

Waverly was all about making everyone laugh!

Waverly's infamous squinty eyed look... this could mean you're in trouble, she's in trouble, or she's just being a silly happy girl like here.

 Love this little face....
Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, too!  Our only complaint is that weekends just aren't long enough!
