Jumpin' Beans

Waverly was super-excited to help out in Harlan's room last night!
Once she discovered the new mattress in the crib, she was all for some jumping!

We have all been working hard to get going on Harlan's room.  It had previously been a spare bedroom, and mostly used for storage.  Now its been painted and is all ready for some decorations!

Obviously, Waverly was most excited to make friends with the crib again.  Funny, seeing as how she rarely slept in it when it was hers!  She was also tickled to play with the baby bouncer seat, the swing and the exersaucer.  Now we just have to convince her that those are toys for brother!

We have made great progress on Harlan's room and I just can't wait to get everything organized (um... let the nesting begin?).  I am so glad we decided to keep the kids' rooms similar and I think they are going to look great!  As soon as we get the final touches, there will be plenty of pictures to share!

Made by Mommy

My first quilt...

I'm sure everyone remembers a couple months ago when I began making a quilt for Waverly from her baby clothes... no? Well, I started by selecting my favorite outfits from the piles of infant clothes I'd saved.  Then, I cut (yes, this was the hard part!) all of those pretty wee outfits into quilting squares.

With instruction from Mamaw Jean, I began sewing all the squares together.  There are 80 squares!  The process really went quite fast.

After all the columns and rows were sewn together, Mamaw Jean worked on the batting and the borders.  We pinned everything in place, and then I hand tacked each corner of each square to hold the backing in place.

After a final stitch, the quilt was finished!  We sent it off to the sewing shop to be embroidered.

Waverly loves her quilt and it warms my heart to see her snuggling with it.  Even from the beginning, Waverly was involved in the project, always sneaking a quilting square away or going night-night on the few pieces sewn together.  Now that her quilt is all finished, she really likes cuddling on the couch with it!

She likes to show Mommy all of the colors she knows, too!  She will find the polka dots, the ruffles and the pictures.

Now that Quilt # 1 is complete?  Well, its "welcome to the world of sewing" for Mommy!  I have finished a baby blanket for Waverly's new cousin Jacob, and I'm working on baby blankets for both Waverly and Harlan for Christmas.

I am most proud of Waverly's quilt and I am so glad that she likes it.  I hope it becomes a treasure in the years to come.

My Favorite Kind of Turkey

Waverly and I thought it would be a good idea to get out the paints last night...

And what better to paint?  Some Thanksgiving Turkeys!

Of course, Waverly wanted to warm up first by painting her favorite... polka dots!

She is very intent when she does any kind of project or art work.  She means business!  She gets so excited when we get out our paint supplies, and she always has such a good time!

Finger painting is the best!

And see my adorable turkey?

Weekend Wonders

As usual, we had a wonderful weekend with Waverly!

On Saturday, we made cupcakes together!  Waverly loves to help out in the kitchen.  She likes to put the cupcake liners in the pan and to peer into the mixer as we prepare the batter.  She's also great at washing dishes!

Her favorite part was taste testing!

Waverly loves to see her moo-cows!  Papaw likes to take her outside to see the cows and she is always asking if they are "over the hill".  Once the cow licked her hand, and she remembers to always tell everyone what happened.  Her reaction?  A loud "shewww!"

On Sunday, Waverly and I visited Mamaw Gail.  Waverly likes to play "bomp-bomp" down the stairs, which is where she climbs to the top and slides down on her bottom step-by-step.  She has a ball!

She pulled out Mamaw's little stool and promptly told everyone it was a seat.  Then she wanted Mamaw to sit with her!

We had lots of fun playing at home too.  It was a busy weekend, with some Christmas shopping and visiting.
We always enjoy those long weekends!

Oh Boy!

34 weeks!

Only 6 weeks left to go, and that's by the doctor's count.  Mommy's count is really only 4 weeks away, since I am judging based on the math and this kiddo's size!  Only time will tell!

This week, Baby Harlan has dropped lower still.  Now Mom can breathe, as he is no longer pressing in on my lungs as much.  He weighs in at about 4.2 pounds to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches.

Baby is recognizing and reacting to simple songs now, so the research says.  I wonder if he will be a big fan of "Snuggle Puppy" just like his big sis!

Harlan is busy wigglin' and a gigglin' here lately.  He takes little rests, but then rolls around to remind me that he is there.  He makes sure to let me know when its time to eat or time to sit down for a bit!  Mommy is doing well.  Her feet have begun swelling, so its lots of rest from here on out!
Waverly has been a big helper, though!  She even volunteered to put the cokes in the refrigerator for Mommy!

She's such a good girl!
We have been talking a lot about baby brother Harlan in hopes that Waverly will be better prepared for his arrival and home coming.  She is going to be a great big sister!
